Sameera Alqattan\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s10\" dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"s12\">ACWA Power<\/span><span class=\"s12\">,<\/span> <span class=\"s12\">a leading Saudi developer, investor and operator of power generation<\/span><span class=\"s12\">, <\/span><span class=\"s12\">desalinated water<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> and green hydrogen<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> plants <\/span><span class=\"s12\">worldwide,<\/span> <span class=\"s12\">Shuaibah Water Electricity Company (SWEC), and <\/span><span class=\"s12\">Saudi Water Partnership Company<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> (SWPC)<\/span><span class=\"s12\">, the <\/span><span class=\"s12\">off-taker<\/span><span class=\"s12\">of Shuaibah 3 IWP<\/span><span class=\"s12\">P<\/span><span class=\"s12\">,<\/span> <span class=\"s12\">signed<\/span> <span class=\"s12\">a<\/span><span class=\"s12\">n<\/span> <span class=\"s12\">agreement<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> to restructure the Shuaibah 3 I<\/span><span class=\"s12\">ndependent <\/span><span class=\"s12\">W<\/span><span class=\"s12\">ater and <\/span><span class=\"s12\">P<\/span><span class=\"s12\">ower <\/span><span class=\"s12\">P<\/span><span class=\"s12\">roject (<\/span><span class=\"s12\">I<\/span><span class=\"s12\">WPP). The agreement <\/span><span class=\"s12\">entails<\/span> <span class=\"s12\">the conversion <\/span><span class=\"s12\">and replacement <\/span><span class=\"s12\">of the <\/span><span class=\"s12\">IWPP<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> from a<\/span><span class=\"s12\">n energy-intensive<\/span> <span class=\"s12\">power generation and <\/span><span class=\"s12\">thermal desalination facility to <\/span><span class=\"s12\">a <\/span><span class=\"s12\">greenfield<\/span> <span class=\"s12\">seawater reverse osmosis<\/span><span class=\"s12\">(SWRO)<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> desalination plant<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> under the name <\/span><span class=\"s13\">\u201cShuaibah 3 Independent <\/span><span class=\"s13\">W<\/span><span class=\"s13\">ater Project<\/span> <span class=\"s13\">(IWP)<\/span><span class=\"s13\">\u201d<\/span><span class=\"s12\">. <\/span><span class=\"s12\">As such, o<\/span><span class=\"s12\">perations of Shuaibah 3 I<\/span><span class=\"s12\">ndependent Water and Power Project (<\/span><span class=\"s12\">IWPP) will<\/span><span class=\"s12\">cease in <\/span><span class=\"s12\">2025<\/span><span class=\"s12\">, saving nearly 45 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions <\/span><span class=\"s12\">and<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> 22 million barrels of light crude oil annually<\/span><span class=\"s12\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s10\" dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"s11\">HE Eng. Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadli, Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture in Saudi Arabia<\/span> <span class=\"s11\">and Chairman of the Board of Directors of SWPC<\/span><span class=\"s11\">,<\/span><span class=\"s12\">signed a <\/span><span class=\"s12\">25-year <\/span><span class=\"s12\">water purchase agreement for<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> the new<\/span><span class=\"s12\">Shuaibah 3 IWP <\/span><span class=\"s12\">today <\/span><span class=\"s12\">with<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> a <\/span><span class=\"s12\">consortium led by <\/span><span class=\"s12\">ACWA Power and <\/span><span class=\"s12\">Public Investment Fund (PIF)<\/span><span class=\"s12\">-owned Badeel<\/span><span class=\"s12\">,<\/span> <span class=\"s12\">at a value of approximately<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> SAR 3 billion.<\/span> <span class=\"s12\">The ACWA Power \u2013 <\/span><span class=\"s12\">Badel<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> consortium will lead the implementation of the project while SWPC will serve as the <\/span><span class=\"s12\">offtaker<\/span><span class=\"s12\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s10\" dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"s12\">The agreement was signed in the presence of <\/span><a name=\"_Hlk106190892\"><\/a><span class=\"s12\">Mr<\/span><span class=\"s12\">. <\/span><span class=\"s12\">Mohannad Ahmed Basudan<\/span><span class=\"s12\">, CEO<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> of the National Center for Privatization<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> and <\/span><span class=\"s12\">Member of the Board of Directors of <\/span><span class=\"s12\">SWPC; <\/span><span class=\"s12\">Eng. <\/span><span class=\"s12\">Khaled Al Qureshi, CEO <\/span><span class=\"s12\">of SWPC;<\/span> <span class=\"s12\">and <\/span><span class=\"s12\">Mohamad Abunayyan, Chairman of ACWA Power<\/span><span class=\"s12\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s10\" dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"s12\">Upon completion of the project, Shuaibah 3 IWP will produce <\/span><span class=\"s12\">600,000 <\/span><span class=\"s12\">cubic metres of water a <\/span><span class=\"s12\">d<\/span><span class=\"s12\">ay<\/span><span class=\"s12\">, catering to t<\/span><span class=\"s12\">he water demand of Jeddah<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> and <\/span><span class=\"s12\">Makkah al-Mukarramah<\/span><span class=\"s12\">,<\/span> <span class=\"s12\">especially during <\/span><span class=\"s12\">peak <\/span><span class=\"s12\">demand periods such as the Holy Month of Ramadan and<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> the<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> Hajj seasons<\/span><span class=\"s12\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s10\" dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"s12\">Commenting on the occasion,<\/span> <span class=\"s11\">Mohammad Abunayyan, <\/span><span class=\"s11\">Chairman <\/span><span class=\"s11\">of<\/span><span class=\"s11\"> ACWA Power<\/span><span class=\"s12\">, said: <\/span><span class=\"s12\">\u201cThe energy sector is witnessing strategic shifts towards reducing the <\/span><span class=\"s12\">dependence on l<\/span><span class=\"s12\">iquid fuels <\/span><span class=\"s12\">as a vital energy source for<\/span> <span class=\"s12\">water desalination and <\/span><span class=\"s12\">power<\/span> <span class=\"s12\">production. This is the first project in which a thermal water desalination <\/span><span class=\"s12\">plant<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> is converted <\/span><span class=\"s12\">into a greenfield reverse osmosis facility that utilises r<\/span><span class=\"s12\">enewable <\/span><span class=\"s12\">energy to save up to <\/span><span class=\"s12\">70<\/span><span class=\"s12\">% <\/span><span class=\"s12\">of energy consumption.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s10\" dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"s12\">\u201c<\/span><span class=\"s12\">Shuaibah 3 IWP is<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> proof of the strength of our partnership <\/span><span class=\"s12\">with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture to raise the efficien<\/span><span class=\"s12\">cy <\/span><span class=\"s12\">of <\/span><span class=\"s12\">the <\/span><span class=\"s12\">water desalination sector in Saudi Arabia. The project is one of the first of its kind in the region <\/span><span class=\"s12\">and <\/span><span class=\"s12\">falls within the framework of the program led by His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, Minister of Energy, and unparalleled contribution of the Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Eng. Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen<\/span><span class=\"s12\">, to deploy <\/span><span class=\"s12\">renewable<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> energy<\/span> <span class=\"s12\">as<\/span> <span class=\"s12\">the<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> primary source of <\/span><span class=\"s12\">power<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> for water desalination<\/span><span class=\"s12\">.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"s12\">Deemed as one of the largest desalination projects in the Kingdom, <\/span><span class=\"s12\">Shuaibah 3 IWP will utilise state-of-the-art <\/span><span class=\"s12\">reverse osmosis <\/span><span class=\"s12\">technologies to ensure the highest <\/span><span class=\"s12\">level of production <\/span><span class=\"s12\">efficiency<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> and<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> reliability<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> that can be<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> benchmarked against any comparable plant in the world. <\/span><span class=\"s12\">The project will produce potable water at record-low power consumption and be partially energized by photovoltaic solar energy<\/span><span class=\"s12\">,<\/span> <span class=\"s12\">which will reduce electricity consumption from the <\/span><span class=\"s12\">grid by 45% and <\/span><span class=\"s12\">minimise the carbon footprint, advocating the best environmental and sustainability practices during operation. <\/span><span class=\"s12\">The switch from thermal to RO will reduce the power needed to desalinate seawater by 70%.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s10\" dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"s12\">L<\/span><span class=\"s12\">ocal content of the project <\/span><span class=\"s12\">will amount<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> to 40% in the construction phase<\/span><span class=\"s12\">; <\/span><span class=\"s12\">50% in the operation and maintenance phase for the first five years<\/span><span class=\"s12\">; <\/span><span class=\"s12\">and will<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> eventually<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> increase to 70%<\/span><span class=\"s12\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s10\" dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"s12\">Shuaibah 3 IWP <\/span><span class=\"s12\">is<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> expected to be commercially operational by <\/span><span class=\"s12\">Q2<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> 2025<\/span><span class=\"s12\">, with t<\/span><span class=\"s12\">he <\/span><span class=\"s12\">financial <\/span><span class=\"s12\">returns<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> of the contracted revenues<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> reflected during the same period. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s4\" dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"s12\">ACWA Power is the largest <\/span><span class=\"s12\">private<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> operator of water desalination plants<\/span> <span class=\"s12\">in the world, with a production capacity of 6<\/span><span class=\"s12\">.4 million <\/span><span class=\"s12\">cubic meters<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> of desalinated water <\/span><span class=\"s12\">a<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> day<\/span><span class=\"s12\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s10\" dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"s12\">The company<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> has a robust portfolio of <\/span><span class=\"s12\">10 <\/span><span class=\"s12\">SWRO projects in the Kingdom<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> and GCC<\/span><span class=\"s12\">, <\/span><span class=\"s12\">in which some projects are partially powered by renewable energy. <\/span><span class=\"s12\">The<\/span><span class=\"s12\"> pioneering integration of clean energy to fuel water desalination has been installed in several regional mega projects such as the Rabigh 3, Red Sea development project, Jubail 3A, Umm Al Quwain IWP, and Taweelah IWP. <\/span><span class=\"s12\">ACWA Power currently produces enough water to meet the needs of 24 million people daily.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s6\" dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"s11\">-ends-<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"s14\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">About ACWA Power<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"s15\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">ACWA Power (TADAWUL:<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s16\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">2082<\/span><\/span><span class=\"s15\"><span class=\"bumpedFont20\">) is a developer, investor and operator of power generation, desalinated water and green hydrogen production plants.
